Carpet Cleaning Price Calculator
Updated · By the CalculatorDash editorial team · How we check our maths
Quick answer
Carpet cleaning is usually priced per room (about $35–$75) or per square foot ($0.25–$0.50). Four average rooms with a flight of stairs and pet odor treatment come to roughly $310 with steam cleaning.
How this calculator works
Most carpet cleaners price by the room, with a room meaning up to about 200 square feet, and charge stairs separately because each step is cleaned by hand. Commercial jobs and very large rooms are usually priced by the square foot instead.
Hot water extraction (often called steam cleaning) is the method most carpet manufacturers recommend. Low-moisture encapsulation dries faster and is popular for offices; a restorative clean adds pre-treatment and multiple passes for neglected carpet. Pet odor treatment uses enzymes that break down urine at the backing, which is why it costs extra.
For cleaning businesses, the per-room price and minimum charge are owner-only settings, so an embedded calculator shows customers a clear estimate while the rate stays private.
The formula
- Base
- rooms × price per room × method factor + stairs × 80% of a room
- Add-ons
- pet treatment +35% of rooms, protector +30% of rooms
- Price
- the larger of base + add-ons and the minimum charge
Worked example
Four rooms at $50 is $200, plus one flight of stairs at $40, is $240. Pet odor treatment adds $70, for $310 in total, about $77.50 a room, shown as a range of roughly $280–$340.
Tips
- 01Vacuum thoroughly before the cleaners arrive; less dry soil means a better result.
- 02Ask whether moving furniture is included; many companies charge extra for heavy pieces.
- 03Clean carpets every 12–18 months, more often with pets or children, to keep warranties valid.
- 04Test any spot remover on a hidden corner first; some household products bleach or set stains permanently.
